- Catch slow drips with a bucket, but don't fit clamp kits or tape unless you know what you're doing. A badly fitted clamp can mask a fault that fails twice as hard later.
Do not test the supply by turning the meter back on "for a second". A split line that has eased off can split further the moment pressure returns.

Most front yards have the meter near the boundary under a plastic or concrete lid. Turn the tap or lever clockwise until it stops, which shuts the supply off.
Can I leave the water on for a second to test it?
No. Every extra minute the supply runs pushes more water through the split, so shut the meter off first and leave it off until we arrive and quote the repair.
Will a small drip turn into a real burst?
Often it will. A pinhole thins the pipe wall around it, so a damp patch on plaster can let go without warning, and an early look costs far less than the flood.
What is a flexi hose and why does it matter?
